LBKDC Board Members Meet with Sarasota Memorial Health Care System Leaders

Longboat Key Democratic Club board members met in a web meeting on Friday, May 1st, with Sarasota Memorial Health Care System CEO, David Verinder and physicians, Kirk Voelker, MD and Manuel Gordillo, MD.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss up-to-date information on the Covid-19 virus and its impact, which we can share with residents of Longboat Key, Sarasota County, Manatee County and surrounding communities.

LBKDC Board members asked a wide range of questions regarding the impact of the pandemic on the hospital and health care system, timing for the hospital to resume elective procedures, steps that we should take to protect ourselves from infection, number of Covid-19 cases on LBK and surrounding communities, treatments that are available locally to treat COVID-19 patients who develop serious illness, including the two clinical trials SMH is participating in, how the virus spreads, how to stay safe and help prevent transmission as our nation moves toward reopening. We also received tips on mask usage, other precautions, and much more.

Also, Dr. Manuel Gordillo answers many questions, including some of those asked by our Board members, regarding the Covid-19 virus in a recent article in the Sarasota Herald Tribune. HERE is the link to that article.
