Take a moment or 2 to look at this table of the congressional seats that are vulnerable on both sides of the aisle (all things being equal); 18 "toss up"/"leaning" seats for the GOP that we need to win and 22 for the Democrats that we need to defend.

 

However, we already know that a majority of Americans do not approve of Trump's performance and a similar number feel the country is not on the right track.

 

Albeit that the turnout was low in the 2 special elections in Florida in early April, both Democratic candidates increased the Democratic share of the vote by 10 points, taking these from the GOP candidate.  Both districts were considered "solid" GOP seats, having previously elected Matt Gaetz and Mike Waltz.

 

What if that size of "swing" in votes were maintained or exceeded when we reach election day in November 2026?  Right now there appears to be more downside for the GOP than upside given the terrible policy decisions made by Trump and cravenly endorsed by the GOP in Congress.
